Can I work as a contractor and build my own house that cost me $ 1 million and sell it for $ 2 million plus?

I'm very interested in becoming a doctor and now that's my main goal. But I know I have a backup plan. Well, I figured that since I love to watch different houses and I wouldnt want to be a real estate agent that I should learn how to build luxury homes in luxury places. I still want to build / design my house anyway.
